The ailing U.S. auto industry may see signs of improvement in demand when the automakers to disclose tomorrow reports June sales, according to industry representatives and analysts.
Animated by a smaller number of applications for unemployment insurance and the improvement in consumer confidence, the annualized sales in the U.S. can reach 10 million this month for the first time in 2009, yesterday said analyst George Pipas, Ford Motor Co. The huge discounts that General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC offered to stimulate sales probably will also help liven up the numbers in June.
These factors suggest that “the worst is behind us,” said Pipas. “Even if sales do not reach the milestone of 10 million, we are not retreating.” The trading for dummies system explains that 10 percent of a portfolio should be invested in a recovering sector that provides a needed good or service , and the newly revitalized auto sector may fit this criterion. A GM spokesman also said that annualized sales of 10 million can be achieved in June.
JD Power and Associates provides annualized sales of cars and light trucks from 10.3 million in June, up from 9.9 million in May, while the website Edmunds.com expects sales to exceed 10 million, although the overall numbers are still 25 % below figures a year ago.
